How to start Windows 95 on a Mac

How to start Windows 95 on a Mac

Have you ever wanted to run Windows 95 on your brand new modern Mac? Well, now your wish will come true thanks to a new project that allows you to run Windows 95 in MacOS as a program. Yes, all Windows 95 really does fit into a regular program.
Believe it or not, Windows 95 works fine, at least on a MacBook Pro. If you want to plunge into nostalgia and play around with an operating system that is almost 20 years old, with all its legendary programs (Windows Explorer, MSDOS, Windows Paint, Notepad, Minesweeper, Internet Explorer), it's very easy.

How to start Windows 95 on a Mac

  1. Go to this page Github and download the program for Mac (the file is called windows95-1-macos.zip).
  2. Unzip the file "windows95.zip" as usual.
  3. Run "windows95.app" as a normal program to immediately start Windows 95.
The archive weighs about 135MB, and the entire Windows 95 application is only 450MB.
When you run the program, use the Escape key to switch the mouse and keyboard between the program and the main interface. The program has full support for the keyboard, but there is no access to the Internet.
Obviously, you can use the program just for fun. If you want to run Windows on a Mac for serious reasons, it's better to use a virtual machine through programs like VirtualBox, VMware or ParallelsThey allow running Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP, ME, 7, 8 and Windows 10. For full access you can use Boot Camp . And if you just want to play, this program is perfect.
The only thing the program lacks is the legendary sound of launching Windows 95 ...
