Quick Look is a useful feature of the Mac OS that allows you to select a file in the file system and get its quick preview, be it the Finder, the "open" or "save" command, etc. The function makes using the Mac file system more convenient, viewing may stop working properly. Sometimes previews are displayed empty or not updated. The most common problem is in the cache. To solve a problem it is easy - for this purpose it is just necessary to clear a cache of fast viewing.
Clearing the quick scan cache is also recommended for security reasons, but without good reasons it is better not to do it at all.
How to Clear a Quick Browser Cache
- Open Terminal from the Utilities folder.
- Type the following command:
qlmanage -r cache
- Press Return (Enter) to clear the Quick Look cache.
You will see the following result if you did everything right:
$ qlmanage -r cache qlmanage: call reset on cache
The size of the Quick Look cache depends on what type of Mac you have, what files are stored on the device, how often you use Quick View, etc. You can disable the quick scan cache with the command "qlmanage -r disable cache", but we strongly do not recommend doing this.
Where in the Mac OS is the Quick Look cache
The quick cache is located at the following address:
$ TMPDIR /../ C / com.apple.QuickLook.thumbnailcache /
Open the folder in the Finder using this program:
open $ TMPDIR /../ C / com.apple.QuickLook.thumbnailcache /
This will open the "com.apple.QuickLook.thumbnailcache" folder in a new Finder window:
Moreover, $ TMPDIR is the main folder with temporary files on the Mac. If you want to find all folders with temporary files.
Remember that editing or deleting files in these folders is not recommended, as this can lead to system problems. If you want to clear temporary files, just restart the computer.
